9 Dec

I remember going to ‘Breakfast with Santa’ when I was little (and so does Aunt Leigh) so we decided to find one this year to take Miss H. I had visions of kid mayhem but it ended up being quite pleasant. We picked the one at The Carlyle Club in Alexandria and they did a great job. Miss H loved the breakfast food and was super duper impressed with the elves that passed out gifts while they waited for Santa.

Miss H was surprised to see the man in the red suit.

We worked on her list of items as we ate breakfast. It was a random assortment of things.

We were not so sure if she would actually talk to him (or get near him) but she presented her list and hopped on his lap. Finally, our streak of no Santa photos has been broken!

They were both very excited to discuss the items on the list. He nicely asked, ‘so, you want a stuffed animal that is a cat?’ She looked at him like he was a big dummy and said very seriously, ‘No, a real cat.’

We were even more surprised when she gave him a hug.

He even had a new toy for her in his bag.

It was a very fun and yummy Breakfast with Santa!

We spent the remainder the afternoon doing yard work (well, Kerry did and Miss H and I colored the sidewalk). Then to my surprise, Kerry had planned a date night for us at the Columbia Firehouse. It was delicious!

We started off with 4 different types of oysters and salad. Kerry picked the New York strip streak and I had bison stroganoff. All of our choices were excellent! And it was a nice way to spend a Saturday evening.

Hope everyone is having a happy weekend!

Father’s Day

18 Jun

We spoiled Kerry first thing Sunday morning with sleeping in, gifts and a yummy breakfast! Then, we headed to the Friendship Firehouse for their Father’s Day Open House. The museum is small but had some cool memorbilia and Miss H got a new fire hat and got to ring the bells. It is the oldest firehouse in Alexandria, plus George Washington was a founding member.

We got a family photo too.

Then, since the weather was so beautiful we enjoyed a walk around Old Town.

Mom joined us for a Father’s Day lunch and then we lounged at the pool. The water was a little chilly but it did not deter Miss H from having fun. Blue lips, chattering teeth and all.

Kerry had a great Father’s Day and we made sure he knew how much he means to us 🙂
