The most important day of the week

28 Sep

Friday is ‘Show and Tell’ day at school. Miss H talks about it all week and this week, she insisted it was okay to bring two books to school on Wednesday for ‘show and tell.’  This morning, she debated about what to bring and finally settled on some seashells from our recent vacation (plus a sea star from our wedding). She counted out shells and put them in her bag and gave me the rundown in the car about what she was going to tell her classmates. There was mention of Grandpa and Grandmom, the ‘vacation house,’ the beach and waves plus the ‘sand mountain.’ I think she spent the entire drive to school talking about the shells and the various things we had done on at the beach.

Kerry and I both did our volunteer time at school this week by helping with the morning drop-off line. Our duties were fairly simple- just help the kids out of the car. This morning, I got to see all the ‘show and tell’ items and everyone was as excited about it as Miss H. All the classrooms have baskets outside on Friday to store the items and I got a preview of the books, flowers, puzzles, necklaces, a ‘snow globe from Boston’ and even a bag of tamarinds.

We are so happy that Miss H loves her little school and is so enthusiastic about going in the morning! Hope everyone enjoys their Fridays as much as the kids at school 🙂

More tree removal and other weekend happenings

23 Sep

The tree company spent most of Thursday and Friday here removing more trees and they will be back this week to take the huge logs off our yard. We have become the spectacle of the neighborhood. I have seen more cars slow down to look at the crane, the guys in the trees, the cherry picker and the logs in the front yard. Plus, we have even had one person rummaging through the logs.

This is how the day started on Friday.

And, then they started to swing the huge pieces over the house.

Finally, they started on the front tree.

Then we had a huge pile of logs.

Saturday morning, we headed to Miss H’s school picnic at Lake Accotink. It was perfect weather for a pontoon boat ride, time on the carousel, running around the playground and meeting the friends she talks about all the time.

We were all exhausted after the picnic.

While Miss H enjoyed a rare one-hour nap- I headed to a furniture painting class with Stylish Patina.

It was fun to learn some of the finishing techniques and I will be using the Barcelona Orange by Annie Sloane to add some color to a coffee table.

We each painted a board with different colors and used different waxes to add some more depth to the color.

Today, we headed over to a friends for a cookout. Miss H loved their trampoline (I see one in our future) and motorized scooter (probably in our future too). Again, she fell asleep in the car from sheer exhaustion.

First, the jumping.

Then the scooting.

It was a great weekend! Hope you all enjoyed yours.
