Weekend in Williamsburg

14 Nov

Since Friday was a holiday, we decided it was the perfect weekend to get out of town for a little getaway. Dad and Kathy were nice enough to book us, and Jorge and Gina, a place in Williamsburg. The weather has been beautiful and it stayed that way for the whole weekend!

Miss H did great on the car ride and the first day we explored Colonial Williamsburg. Of course, Jorge and Kerry hammed it up a little.

Not to be left out of the fun, Miss H wanted to be put in ‘timeout’ too! She did not quite fit but she thought it was funny.

We wore everyone out with all the walking and fresh air so we went back to the condos and ordered some yummy Italian food to finish off the evening. Miss H collapsed and we were all not far behind her.

On Saturday, we headed to Jamestown first. The weather was even better and the National Parks were offering free admission since it was Veteran’s Day weekend. I was the only non-Veteran in our group but the free offer was extended to everyone πŸ™‚

Plus, the local high school was doing kids activities and they were thrilled to have an eager participant. Miss H made a corn husk doll, a wooden bead bracelet and dug for treasure in a sand pit.

Also, she became a bowling champion.

All of us felt like old fuddy duddies when we kept commenting on how polite the high school students were at the event but seriously, they were so nice. Miss H loved the attention and we had fun wandering the grounds.

Then, we headed off to Yorktown. Big, wide open battlefield for someone to run and run. This was a great way to burn off some energy.

Miss H found a little British soldier in the gift shop but he did not last long on the battlefield. Kerry was so impressed with his, ‘yet another British soldier lost at Yorktown,’ joke that he wanted to make sure I got it on the blog. Well, there you go πŸ™‚

It was a great weekend and it was nice to have a scream-free car trip! Hopefully, we have more of these kind of trips in the future.

Williamsburg has a great playground called Kidsburg and we spent some quality time there too this weekend. If you are in the area, this place is a must!

Thanks again to Dad and Kathy for a great weekend!
