I think every parent worries that their kid is not doing everything the other kids are doing. There have been a few times in the last few months that were were worried about Miss H’s vocabulary. It does not help that one of her friends has a HUGE vocabulary (but her mom is also a speech therapist). We were reassured by the doctor that she was totally fine- and he even said she was so far ahead of other kids in movement, fine motor skills, and climbing so her vocabulary was not the priority for her right now. She could clearly communicate with us but the words were not coming out as fast.
Well, we have had a vocabulary explosion in the last few weeks and a lot of it seems to be centered around food 🙂 ‘I have a cookie,’ or ‘I want a cookie,’ are crystal clear. She can say ‘cupcake,’ ‘chicken’ and ‘mac and cheese.’ Plus, she will ask for a ‘bowl’. She lets you know it is time for ‘shoes.’ ‘Bubbles’ are a necessity in the tub. She loves ‘cars.’ And, the ever growing list of sound effects include roars, choo choos, vroom vrooms, baaaaa, moooooo, meow, ruff, and who who. It is great entertainment for Kerry and I to go through the whole list of,’ what does a sheep say?’ or ‘what noise does a train make?’ and get the response. I know, we are easily amused.
I guess the doctor was right and she is perfectly fantastic.
It must be someone’s birthday, right?
My dad finally made it home after a day delay to his flight. If you want to see his blog posts and pictures about the trip, click here.
