We have been wanting to take Miss H to both the National Zoo and the Reston Zoo but it has been so miserably hot for most of the summer that we have avoided but places for the smelly, heat related reasons. However, today was perfect weather so we picked the Reston Zoo since it is a petting zoo. Miss H had a blast!
We were totally surprised of her fearless approach to monkeys, chickens, goats, sheep, geese, kangaroos and a huge antelope. Her favorite was the pot bellied pig- she rubbed his snout and petted him very gently. She giggled, added her animal sound effects and generally had a ball. We even got her to feed the animals- even though she wanted to feed herself with those pellets first.
If you notice the right corner of this picture- that is the cup of food being stolen from my hand by a sheep. Both Hadley and Kerry found this hysterical.
The goats were funny too and Hadley was convinced that they go ‘moo.’
She kept laughing at the sheep.
We were finally able to tear her away from the petting barn and wandered down into the safari animal area. A bunch of kids were getting their picture taken on the rhino and she had to climb on him too.
And, in case you did not know- antelope are huge.
