Several people have been curious about this whole ‘Hadley going to the gym,’ thing so I finally did get some pictures. The place is very fun for Miss H and always results in a long nap after all the fun.
Sliding into the ball pit…
One of these two- does not belong in the ball pit. We even got Hadley to jump off the platform into the pit. After she did it once- she just wanted to keep jumping over and over and over.
Then it was swinging time…
There was climbing the rungs, going down the slides (and trying to walk back up), time on the monkey bars, crawling through tunnels and singing plus dancing. She loves everything- well, besides the part where they try to get everyone to sit in a circle and sing. There is way too many things to be doing besides sitting!
And, this was the result of all that fun.
After a nice, long nap- Mom and I took Hadley to lunch and to the Pope-Leighey House. This is the only Frank Llyod Wright house that is open to visitors in the Mid-Atlantic area and somehow we have never been. Originally, the house was located in Falls Church but many years ago it was moved onto the grounds of Woodlawn. We thought it was funny to see this classic, Federal style mansion next to the very modern Wright design but it makes for a nice place to visit.
So you get this-
and this.
I am certain that Hadley did not appreciate the style and design of either home but she did love running around the lawn.
The tour was nice (and they had blocks for Miss H to play with while we got our history lesson). It is on a much smaller scale than Fallingwater but it definitely is a hidden gem in this area. If you live in the DC area- you should definitely check out the house!
I’ve lived in DC all my life and didn’t know about this. Thanks for blogging about it. I will have to go there one of these days.
I’m organizing a trip in July for my book club to visit the Pope-Leighey House because we’re reading Loving Frank by Nancy Horan (historical fiction about Frank Lloyd Wright’s life). Can’t wait to see it!
Loving Frank is a great book! And, the house is definitely worth visiting. Have you been to Fallingwater?
